故事发生在风景美丽如画的希腊小岛上，亚尼斯（弗朗索瓦-格扎维埃·德梅松 Fran?ois-Xavier Demaison 饰）是生活在那里的一名14岁的少年。母亲在很早之前就离开了亚尼斯，现在他和父亲戴蒙思内（埃米尔·库斯图里卡 Emir Kusturica 饰）过着相依为命的日子。戴蒙思内是一个非常严肃和古板的男人，平日里不苟言笑，并且对亚尼斯缺少关怀，随着时间的推移，父子两人之间的距离越来越远。 一次偶然中，亚尼斯在岛上发现了一只濒死的鹈鹕宝宝，善良的亚尼斯偷偷收养了这只小鹈鹕。因为害怕爸爸责怪自己，亚尼斯并不敢将鹈鹕的事情告诉爸爸，而这只渐渐康复长大的小鹈鹕这让亚尼斯成为了小岛上的风云人物。
